England's tour of India
Mohali: Opener Marcus Trescothick and skipper Nasser Hussain negated Indian skipper Saurav Gangulys intentions as England reached 107 for one at lunch off 28 overs in the first Test on Monday.Yohannan claimed his first Test wicket in his first over when he had left-handed Butcher caught by Laxman at second slip off a perfect delivery. The Indians couldnt capitalise on this early break throughs with run making becoming an easy affair as the day progressed. The experienced England pair of Hussain and Trescothick handled the pressure splendidly without giving any qualms. The Indian rookie medium pacers couldnt exploit the conditions much and runs flowed freely from the blades of both batsmen.Even the introduction of leg spinner Anil Kumble failed to check the run flow. Trescothick was batting on 55, with Hussain unbeaten on 44 at the lunch breakEarlier, Indian skipper Saurav Ganguly won the toss and elected to field. The Indians capped Iqbal Siddiqui, Tinu Yohannan and Sanjay Bangar. This is the fourth Test at this ground and the first after India played a draw with New Zealand in 1999.
