Ahemdabad: India continued to struggle as England consolidated its position in the second cricket Test, reaching 97 for one by lunch on the fourth day on Friday.
England, which enjoyed a 116-run first innings lead after bowling out India for 291, extended its lead to 213 as the home team could claim only one wicket in the morning session.
Skipper Nasser Hussain and opener Mark Butcher were batting on 40 each after England resumed at the overnight score of 15 for no loss.
Marcus Trescothick was the only batsman to be dismissed, for 12, an addition of just two runs to his overnight score.
Butcher and Hussain have already added 76 runs for the unbroken second wicket. The Indians got success early in the morning when Shiv Sunder Das took a brilliant catch off Javagal Srinath to send back Trescothick.
The Indians, however, could not capitalise on the early break through.
