Bangalore: Chairman of selection committee Chandu Borde said Rahul Dravid, who is having problems with his shoulder, may also be rested for the Challenger series One-day tournament between India Seniors, India 'A', and India 'B' in January.

"It is better for him to take treatment when it is in an early stage." Dravid had been diagnosed with a rupture in his shoulder cartilage, a problem he had been carrying for four years, on the tour to South Africa. However, the selectors, who met in Bangalore on Sunday to pick the three teams, still named Ganguly and Dravid as captains of the senior side and India 'A' respectively.

Borde said V V S Laxman will lead the senior team in matches where Ganguly would be absent. The substitute for Dravid, in case he doesn't play, for the India 'A' team, had not been decided. Anil Kumble would lead the India B team.

The Challenger series will be robbed of some of its sheen with master batsman Sachin Tendulkar and speedster Javagal Srinath opting out and Saurav Ganguly making himself available for just one match.
