Hyderabad knocks out Karnataka with draw

Hyderabad: Hosts Hyderabad salvaged a determined draw, posting 237 for six in the course of a follow on after it was bowled out for 180 in first innings by Andhra in the four-day Ranji Trophy cricket match at the Gymkhana ground on Friday.
Andhra, which scored 365 in their first innings, gained five points by virtue of the first innings lead taking its tally to 28 to lead the South Zone table, while the hosts picked up three points to aggregate 24 points and qualified for the second phase of the tournament. Tamil Nadu, which is in a commanding position against Kerala, would be the other team to qualify to knock out phase leaving out Karnataka, Kerala and Goa. A solid 70 by overnight's batsmen A Nandakishore off 234 balls with seven fours and useful contributions by Vanka Pratap (31), Vinay Kumar (37 not out), Arjun Yadav (24) and skipper Venkatapathi Raju (32) enabled Hyderabad to wipe out the deficit of 117 runs and score 237 for six at close.
