Kolkata: A day after arriving in the city for the January 19 inaugural fixture of the six-match Limited Overs series against India, the England team on Saturday plunged into practice at the Calcutta Cricket and Football clubGround. The entire team had a three-hour workout under the watchful eyes of coach Duncan Fletcher and his assistant Tim Boon to tune themselves up for the One-dayers after losing the Test series 0-1 in December 2001.Beginning with four laps of the park, the players did stretching exercises before going for catching practice, both skiers and blinders. The team seemed to lay special emphasis on running between the wickets, a crucial area in the shorter version of the game, as also fielding returns. The nets began an hour into the practice and continued for two hours. In addition to the regular bowlers, including the reputed pace duo of Andy Caddick and Darren Gough who joined the action after skipping the Test series due to security concerns, four local rookies turned their arms to give batting practice to the English.
