Kolkata: Mobile phones functioned erratically at the Eden Gardens, the venue of One-day International match between India and England on Saturday. The worst sufferers were the scribes in the press box of the stadium, who had a harrowing time sending news items to their offices. Others too, sitting in the pavilion stand, had similar experiences.Police said they had no clue about what could have prompted the disturbances to mobile phone users in the stadium even as speculation was rife that jamming equipment had been installed. When contacted by PTI, an official of command, one of the operators in the city, said they had no instruction about jamming or things like that from anyone. Not only the command subscribers, but other service providers Airtel and BSNL users, had similar complaints. "We tried to contact our office from stadium, but failed miserably," said a scribe. Others were, however, a bit lucky and occasionally managed to send news items, but they too complained that something was wrong. PTI
