Bangalore A rare record went unnoticed when Carl Hooper, captain of the demoralised West Indies team performed an all-round feat earlier accomplished by only three other players in Test cricket. Although mention was made in some quarters of the Press relating to his reaching the milestone of 5,000 runs in Test cricket, many were not aware of his completion of and all-round performance by him. When Hooper crossed 5,000 runs in his 92nd Test (in the 2nd Test against Pakistan at Sharjah), he became the fourth player in the world to achieve the all-rounder's distinction of scoring 5,000 runs and taking over 100 wickets in Tests. Hooper, who was born on December 15, 1966 at Georgetown, is a right handed batsman and has proved his worth both as a defensive and attacking player. He is also an excellent bowler of off spin. He fields magnificently and has taken some astounding catches. He has proved his worth on many occasions in both Limited Over Internationals and Test cricket. He made his debut against India in the 2nd Test at Bombay (now Mumbai) in 1987-88. He retired from Test cricket, but was recalled to lead the beleaguered West Indies team. The elite four who have accomplished the rare distinction of scoring over 5,000 runs and taking over 100 wickets are:
