Melbourne: Star leg spinner Shane Warne, who two years ago was involved in a phone sex scandal with an English nurse, denied he was implicated in an alleged extortion attempt, which is being investigated by the Australian police. The allegations involve a teenage girl being kissed in an inappropriate manner by a member of the Australian team before a One-day International in Brisbane. The girl's uncle reportedly threatened to go to the media over the incident unless the Australian Cricket Board (ACB) paid him several thousand Dollars.Warne, playing against a South African 'A' side in Australia's opening tour match at Potchefstroom in South Africa, said it was sad the people involved had tried to cash in on his fame. "Obviously, I can't comment and I can't speak about the specifics of the case, but I would like to put on record the fact it's all rubbish and it's disappointing and it's sad that these people have tried to take advantage of my high profile, who I am and the Australian Cricket Board," Warne said in a statement distributed from South Africa by an Australian news agency. "As far as I'm concerned it's out of my hands now. The whole situation is very disappointing and I hope it's resolved quickly." Teammate Brett Lee also released a statement supporting Warne. "I was with Shane on the day in question and I can say categorically that nothing untoward took place," he said.
