Perth: The injured girlfriend of England cricketer Ben Hollioake, killed in a car crash on Saturday, remains in a critical condition, a spokesman for Royal Perth Hospital said on Sunday.
Janaya Scholten, 23, was travelling in the sports car Hollioake was driving in South Perth when it spun out of control and hit a brick wall. The 24-year-old England all- rounder is believed to have died almost instantly. His girlfriend received head and chest injuries in the smash and is in intensive care. Hollioake had played in two Tests and 20 One-day Internationals for England. He was believed to have been visiting his parents in Perth after leaving his England teammates in New Zealand at the end of the One-day series there. Meanwhile, in Wellington flags flew at half-mast and a minute's silence was observed before play began on Sunday in the second Test between England and New Zealand.
