WI elects to field; Kumble dropped, Ratra to debut

Port of Spain: West Indies captain Carl Hooper won the toss and put India in to bat in the second Test on Friday. India made a few changes in its side leaving out veteran leg spinner Anil Kumble in favour of a three-pronged pace attack.

Left-arm seamer Ashish Nehra will join Zaheer Khan and Javagal Srinath, while wicket-keeper Ajay Ratra - who replaced Deep Dasgupta - will make his Test debut. Harbhajan Singh, who missed the first Test due to a shoulder injury, will be the only spinner in the Indian side coming in place of fellow off spinner Sharandeep Singh. West Indies also included an extra paceman bringing in Marlon Black for an injured leg spinner Mahendra Nagamootoo.

The teams: India: Saurav Ganguly (captain), Shiv Sunder Das, Sanjay Bangar, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, V V S Laxman, Ajay Ratra, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Ashish Nehra and Javagal Srinath.

West Indies: Carl Hooper (captain), Chris Gayle, Stuart Williams, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Brian Lara, Shivnaraine Chanderpaul, Junior Murray, Mervyn Dillon, Cameron Cuffy, Marlon Black and Adam Sanford.

Umpires: Darly Harper (Australia) and Asoka de Silva (Sri Lanka).

Match referee: Ranjan Madugalle (Sri Lanka).
