Colombo: Sri Lanka's fast bowler Chaminda Vaas was fined a day's allowance for keeping a male masseur in his hotel room during the recent Sharjah Cup tournament, officials said Tuesday.
Vaas was found with his masseur in his hotel room beyond the 10.00 pm curfew a day before the final against Pakistan on April 17, the officials said. Pakistan won the match by a whopping 217 runs after Sri Lanka was shot out for 78 in 16.5 overs. "Some players took their own masseurs, but the understanding was that they could not stay with the players after 10.00 pm," an official said. "On discovering a masseur in the room, the team manager imposed a fine on Vaas." A physiotherapist accompanied the Sri Lankan team, but several players complained that he was too busy and cricketers were forced to make their own arrangements. Vaas is currently touring England with the Sri Lankan team.
