Bangalore: Ace leg spinner Anil Kumble, who broke his jaw during the fourth Test against the West Indies, would undergo surgery by a dental specialists team at a city hospital.
Kumble, who fought off acute pain in the fractured jaw to bowl 14 overs unchanged on Sunday, is flying back to his hometown of Bangalore in the early hours of Wednesday. Hospital sources told reporters that the dental team would first examine Kumble, who was hit on the jaw by a Mervyn Dillon short-pitched delivery on Saturday, and then decide on when to conduct the surgery.
But the surgery is likely to be performed on Thursday, they said. Kumble, who claimed the important wicket of Brian Lara and returned with figures of 14-5-29-1 in the Antigua Test, would arrive here via Mumbai at around 4:30 am, family sources said. Doctor Kishore Naik is likely to lead the team of dental surgeons who'll perform the surgery on Kumble's jaw.
