London: England fast bowler Darren Gough was ruled out of the second Test against India on Wednesday even before the first one had started.
Yorkshire quick Gough is out of Thursday's series opener at Lord's because of a long- standing knee problem, aggravated while playing for his county against arch-rivals Lancashire last week. In a statement issued Wednesday, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said, "31- year-old Gough has been advised to rest his injured right knee for a further two weeks after seeing a specialist in Sheffield on Tuesday. "The rest period is designed to allow time for the inflammation in Darren's knee to subside and he will not be available for selection for the second Test at Trent Bridge."
