Stewart breaks Gooch's record for playing more Tests

Bangalore: Alec Stewart, the English wicket-keeper will be surpassing the record held by Graham Gooch for playing most Tests for England when he plays against India in the first Test at Lords from 25.07.2002.

Gooch has played 118 Tests and the current Lord's Test will be Stewart's 119th Test. He has a tally of 7632 runs and has shown that he has still active cricket in his blood although he is 39 years old. The other England players to have crossed the 100 Tests mark, apart from Stewart and Gooch are, D I Gower (11&0, M A Atherton (115), M C Cowdrey (114), G Boycott (108) and I T Botham (102).
