Bangalore: Michael Vaughan - the England opener who was out for a fifth ball duck in the 1st innings of the 1st Test at Lord's against India on the opening day of the Test - 25.07.2002 - went on to score a century in the 2nd innings on 28.07.2002. He thus performed the feat of scoring a duck and century in the same Test - a feat, which had earlier been recorded on 21 occasions by the England batsmen prior to Vaughan's feat. Vaughan is only the 2nd Englishman after Chris Lewis to score a duck and century against India. Lewis had scored 0&117 at Chepauk, Madras in the 1992/93 series. Vaughan thus becomes the 1st English player to have done so against India on home ground. It is interesting to note that this feat has come at Lord's only for the second time in the history of Tests played by England. The last occasion when a century and a duck in the same Test had been recorded at Lord's was way back in 1955 when P B H May had scored 0 and 112 against South Africa. The following is the complete list of England players who have recorded a duck and a century or vice versa, arranged in chronological order of Tests played till the end of the 4th day of the 1st Test between India and England at Lord's on 28.07.2002:
