Bangalore: Pakistan, Sri Lanka and South Africa will be coming together to involve themselves in a tri-series in August 2002 in Morocco in Tangiers. The tri-series is held for 'Morocco Cup', which carries a total prize money worth $ 250,000 out of which the winner can take home $ 120,000. The tournament is being organised by the CBFS of Sharjah in collaboration with the Federation Royale Marocaine de Cricket an organization meant for promotion of cricket in Morocco. This is the first time that a Limited Over International will be played in Morocco. Pakistan is scheduled to face the formidable South Africa in the opening game on 12th August 2002. It will be an interesting duel as each team is endowed with top cricketing stars although Sri Lanka are the least fancied team to win the tournament. Though Sri Lanka has just concluded a series victory over Bangladesh, it will have tough opposition from South Africa and Pakistan - both of whom have world-class fast bowlers in operation - an important feature in which Sri Lanka thoroughly lacks the sting. Performance wise, Pakistan and Sri Lanka are happy in that they have won their last series (Sri Lanka against Bangladesh in Sri Lanka in August 2002 and Pakistan against the highly rated Australia in Australia in June 2002). However, South Africa has to make up for the series defeat it suffered at the hands of Australia in April 2002 in which it lost 5 games, won 1 and tied 1 although the matches were played in front of the home crowd. Presented below are some of the stats pertaining to the ensuing tri-series in Morocco:
