Phelps (137 not out), batting through the day, and Clarke (134) knuckled down for a partnership of 233 for the third wicket on a day when runs and wickets were precious. The 21-year-old Clarke is regarded as one of the rising stars of Australian cricket and his innings on Friday confirmed that glowing reputation.
