Lahore:The Pakistan cricket team management on Tuesday apologised for captain Inzamam-ul-Haq's outburst against a sports journalist saying it was a heat of the moment reaction.

The local sports journalists in Lahore had demanded an apology from the Inzamam for his outburst at a press conference after Sunday's fourth One-day match between India and Pakistan that the visitors won by five wickets.

Asked by a reporter whether the match had been fixed, Inzamam had bluntly retorted "shut up".

Inzamam did not attend the pre-match press conference at the Gaddafi Stadium on Tuesday, but manager Haroon Rashid apologised on his behalf at the packed conference hall.

Rashid started the press conference with the apology saying Inzamam was irritated by the question and so had reacted that way.

"We must understand the circumstances under which he said that. Pakistan had lost the match and he was very upset about it," he said.

Asked why Inzamam had not come personally to apologise, Rashid said, "The series has been played in the true spirit of sportsmanship. We should not make an issue out of it. We should see that the series goes on in this way."
