Bangalore: India and West Indies will contest the first One-day International (ODI) series to be played since the introduction of the ICC ODI Team Rankings, last week. India, ranked fifth with a rating of 106, takes on West Indies ranked seventh, with a rating of 94, in a seven-match series beginning in Jamshedpur. The ICC ODI rankings are based on a model developed by David Kendix. Looking ahead to the possible outcomes from this series, a convincing win for India would move it to within a few rating points of Pakistan in fourth position. As a result, Carl Hoopers team would then drop one place to eighth, a position currently occupied by New Zealand. Alternatively, a strong winning series for West Indies would move it up one ranking place into sixth, ahead of England."One of the primary aims behind the introduction of the new ICC ODI Rankings is to add context and interest to every match in every series," ICC general manager-cricket David Richardson said."This series is a good example of that, as the new system means that both India and West Indies can improve their positions, depending on the eventual result," he explained.
