Harare: Zimbabwe's long-serving player Alistair Campbell has been left out of the World Cup Cricket squad announced on Friday. Campbell, who had captained the side in the absence of Heath Streak through injury, has not scored well in the 10 One-day Internationals Zimbabwe has played this season, reaching double figures only twice.
"We accept the fact that he is experienced but unfortunately his current form is not up to standard," convener of selectors Ali Shah said. "We have had youngsters who have done well lately and we feel the side is a well balanced side," he said. Apart from Campbell's absence there were no major surprises in the squad for the cricketing showcase to be hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Kenya next February and March.
The squad: Heath Streak (captain), Arnoldus Blignaut, Dion Ebrahim, Sean Ervine, Andy Flower, Grant Flower, Travis Friend, Douglas Hondo, Douglas Marillier, Brian Murphy, Henry Olonga, Tatenda Taibu, Mark Vermeulen, Guy Whittal and Craig Wishart.
