Islamabad: A senior Asian Cricket Council official on Saturday claimed that India has agreed to play against Pakistan in the Asia Cup tournament at a neutral venue this year but there was no confirmation from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).Asian Cricket Council (ACC) development manager Zakir Syed Hussain said that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had received a communication from BCCI confirming Indian team's participation in the multi-lateral tournament to be held either in Sri Lanka or Bangladesh."I can confirm this much that serious efforts are being made to see Pakistan and India play in the Asia Cup this year," he said adding that the ACC General Council would meet in January in Dhaka to discuss India's confirmation and the venue for the Asia Cup.BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya could not be reached for his comments. However, Board secretary S K Nair said he was unaware of any such development. He said the Board would go by whatever decision the government takes in this regard.Sports Minister Vikram Verma said in Chennai that India would continue to boycott Pakistan in bilateral cricket series but would play its arch-rivals in multi-lateral tournaments such as the upcoming ICC World Cup in southern Africa next month.The Asia Cup featuring four-Test playing nations in the continent will also see Hong Kong and UAE participate for the first time.
