Paarl: Sachin Tendulkar will open the innings in India's opening game in World Cup match against Holland on Wednesday, team sources said on Tuesday night.Tendulkar would most probably come out with skipper Saurav Ganguly to revive the most successful opening partnership in One-day history, they said.Of late, Tendulkar had been demoted in the batting line-up to provide more stability to the middle-order with Virender Sehwag partnering Ganguly at the top.Ganguly had earlier on Tuesday said the team was open to bringing Tendulkar as an opener."We have three openers in the team and it is a comforting situation," said Ganguly. "We haven't closed our mind to Sachin opening the innings in the competition."Tendulkar, who has scored all but two of his 33 One-day hundreds coming as an opener, has already made it public that he was more comfortable at the top of the batting order. With Tendulkar back at the top, Sehwag was most likely to bat at number four after Rahul Dravid; though that was still to be finalised.Ganguly also allayed the fears on Tendulkar's form after the master batsman failed on the tour of New Zealand."Tendulkar had a very successful One-day NatWest series in England. But he didn't play many One-day games after that series. He might have failed in the last four-five innings but then everyone struggled in New Zealand," Ganguly said."It would be very harsh for anybody to point out Sachin as failure," said Ganguly. "He pulled India out of some very tight positions in England." PTI
