Nagpur: Karnataka trounced Vidarbha to record a 465 run victory in the semi-final of the Ranji Trophy plate group match, which ended on Friday at the Vidarbha Cricket Association ground. The hosts managed 270 for eight with two batsmen unable to play due to illness and injury. Karnataka declared at its overnight score of 607 fornine leaving Vidarbha to bat for the day. However, the hosts once again faltered after a sound start and collapseddramatically to lose by a big margin. Left arm spinner Sunil Joshi's 4 for 51 and off spinner Udit Patel 4 for 100 cut through the home team innings to put Karnataka through to the final against Kerala for the elite group qualification.Openers Amit Deshpande (29) and P Vivek (46) put on 70 for the first wicket but Joshi's arrival saw both dismissed in the space of fifteen runs. The middle order batsman Ranjit Paradkar top scored 70 (11x4) and skipper Alind Naidu (46) along with Rajul Jadhav (51) resisted briefly but succumbed to the visitors spinners on a wearing wicket.Paradkar and Jadhav played some bold shots in front of the wicket but lacked maturity to play longer innings. Joshi finished with nine wickets in the match and topped with innings of 99 in Karnataka's second innings.Vidarbha will continue in the plate group in the next season. PTI
