Johannesburg: The International Cricket Council (ICC) technical committee on Friday approved Graeme Smith as replacement for Jonty Rhodes in the South African team at the ongoing cricket World Cup. Rhodes broke a carpal bone in his right hand while fielding in the match against Kenya on Wednesday and has been ruled out of action for at least five weeks.

The ICC said in its statement that Rhodes cannot rejoin the team hereafter, thus putting a tragic end to the South African's dream of taking bow from international cricket at the game's biggest stage.
