Johannesburg: Reigning champion Australia has been made 1/2000 favourite to beat minnows The Netherlands in its World Cup match at Potchefstroom on Wednesday by British bookmaker William Hill.

Hills spokesman Graham Sharpe, who said the odds were the shortest the firm had ever offered about any sporting contest, explained, "It will cost punters two thousand Pounds to win one if they fancy a bet on them." He also said England was 1/300 to beat African outsiders Namibia in its next World Cup Group 'A' match in Port Elizabeth on Wednesday.

"A 2000 Pounds double on England and the Aussies both winning their matches would give potential profit of 6.67 Pounds," said Sharpe. Australia has started the competition with wins over Asian giants Pakistan and India while The Netherlands has lost to both India and England. Namibia has been beaten by both Zimbabwe and Pakistan.
