Cape Town: India's aggressive opening batsman Virender Sehwag was on Thursday declared fit to play in the World Cup Super Sixes match against Kenya on Friday.[an error occurred while processing this directive]
Sehwag hurt his right index finger during training on Wednesday, but x-rays taken in hospital later did not reveal a fracture. "Veeru will play," said captain Saurav Ganguly ahead of the day-night game at Newlands."His finger is still a bit sore, but batting will not be a problem." Sehwag has averaged just 19 runs in six innings at the World Cup and the Indians are hoping the hard-hitting batsman fires in the second round.
India, which took with it eight points into the Super Sixes, will be virtually assured of a place in the semi-finals if it defeats Kenya.Copyright AFP 2001
