Perren named Sheffield Shield player of the season

Brisbane: Queensland batsman Clinton Perren was on Wednesday named the Sheffield Shield player-of-the-season. The 28-year-old was overlooked early in the season before forcing his way back into the Queensland team for six of the ten qualifying matches, scoring 659 runs at an average of 65.9. He received 17 votes from umpires on a 3-2-1 basis from each match, finishing ahead of Queensland teammate Michael Kasprowicz (14 votes), South Australian batsman David Fitzgerald (13) and NSW's Brett Lee (12) and Michael Slater (12).
