Indians take a splash after a game of volleyballDurban: The sight of international cricketers warming up by playing five-a-side-football has become an increasingly common event in recent years. But India, in a novel move that will also anger old-timers who say the way to get fit for cricket is by playing cricket, has taken things a stage further.Saurav Ganguly's men, who face Kenya in the day-night World Cup semi-final at Kingsmead on Thursday, routinely begin their practice sessions with a game of volleyball."It's a game they really enjoy," coach John Wright explained at Kingsmead on Tuesday. "It relaxes them before practice." And the former New Zealand captain said the game had a big advantage over both football and rugby."Touch wood, it's relatively injury risk-free. It's something we started in England, on the 2002 tour, and it's a good way of getting them warm."They get very passionate about it and it's quite good to watch."The teams are always the same - batsmen against bowlers. "The bowlers are in front," Wright added. But, like the World Cup itself, there is still all to play for.Copyright AFP 2001
