Kolkata: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not received any intimation from the International Cricket Council (ICC) about damage claims from sponsors, citing which the world body had withheld its guarantee money to India for the recently concluded World Cup tournament.
"We have not received any intimation from the ICC till date about any damage claim made by any of the sponsors," Board president Jagmohan Dalmiya said here on Thursday when asked about any progress on arbitration in the ICC-BCCI stand-off. Dalmiya further said that the arbitration process would depend on any claim made against ICC by the sponsors. To a query whether he had received any information about any of the sponsors making any damage claim, he said, "Not to my knowledge." The ICC had earlier decided to withhold India's guarantee money amounting between $ 8 and 9 million from the World Cup after the Indian cricketers refused to sign ICC's Players' Terms for the World Cup due to some restrictive clauses on personal endorsements. The ICC had allowed the Indian cricketers to play the World Cup without signing the terms in its original form by making Board of Control for Cricket in India liable to pay any damages claimed by the sponsors after the tournament. The BCCI, however, had warned to take the matter to Court of Arbitration at Lausanne. As per terms of the World Cup, the ICC would withhold the money for at least six months to compensate the sponsors and TV companies in case of any claims from them. Incidentally, three of the main sponsors of the World Cup were Indian companies.
