London: England captain Nasser Hussain should immediately quit, said one of his predecessors Mike Gatting writing in his 'Observer' column. Gatting believed Hussain's pursuit of 100 Test caps was "self-centred" and insisted he should stand down as Test captain for the long-term good of the team. Hussain announced his intention to resign as One-day captain, a post likely to be occupied by Michael Vaughan, but Gatting feels he was hanging on at Test level for the wrong reasons. Gatting wrote in his 'Observer' column: "The England captain has always been pretty self-centred, but reading his Sunday newspaper column last week - I want to play this many Tests, I want to break these records, I want more victories than anyone else, etc - it would have been very easy to forget that cricket is a team game and the England captaincy is an honour, not a right."
