Faridabad: New Zealand all-rounder Chris Cairns has been ruled out for the One-day international cricket tri-series match against trans-Tasman rivals Australia on Wednesday. Cairns, who pulled his hamstring during the abandoned match against India in Chennai on Thursday, would not play against Australia, New Zealand skipper Stephen Fleming said.
Cairns has been coming up well. It is just that he would not be available for this match, he said. The final eleven would be announced before the toss, after deliberating which combination suits best for the pitch conditions, he said. The New Zealand team had been practising at the Nahar Singh Stadium, the venue for Wednesday's match.
The Kiwi skipper indicated that he would prefer to bowl first against Australia if he won the toss. The pitch has a bit of grass and looks two-pace, Fleming said. A 09:00 hours (IST) start on Wednesday means a little moisture may help the seamers early on and the wicket would even out to benefit the batsmen as the match progresses, he said.
