Kolkata: With the Australians slated to arrive in the city on Friday for the November 18 tri-series final, the authorities have decided to throw a thick security cover in and around the metropolis to prevent any untoward incident. Special security arrangements have been made at the Taj Bengal hotel, where the Aussies would stay, with armed police, plain clothes cops and detective department personnel all set to convert it into a virtual fortress.

Sniffer dogs and bomb disposal squad personnel would also be pressed into service at the hotel and other places the Aussies would be visiting during their stay here, police said. Police stations in sensitive areas have already been alerted and steps taken to step up security around vital installations, sources said.
