Kolkata: Enthused by India's emphatic win over New Zealand on Saturday night, cricket buffs here made a mad scramble for the Eden Gardens on Sunday morning for the elusive ticket to the November 18 tri-series final, with the organisers expecting a packed house.
The area around the Eden Gardens was choc-a-bloc with ticket seekers as also those who came for a fleeting glimpse of their cricket heroes. A thick security ring was thrown around the stadium with the Australian team arriving for scheduled practice session on Sunday morning. Mounted police personnel, SLR wielding commandos, armed policemen and those in plainclothes deployed in large numbers had a trying time in holding back the over- enthusiastic crowd which swelled to several thousands as the day wore on.
"We will surely get a full house of around one lakh now," said a Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) official. All affiliate clubs of the CAB have drawn their full quota of tickets, while the government has sold five thousand tickets through lottery.
