Friday, January 2 2004 18:46 Hrs (IST)

Lucknow:Paceman Harvinder Singh took a five-wicket haul as India bowled out West Indies for a paltry 55 to register a 228 victory in the 1st Under-19 Commonwealth Cricket Championship league match at the K D Singh Babu stadium in Lucknow on Thursday.

Set a target of 284 to win, the visitors could not sustain the fiery spell of Singh, who finished with bowling figures of five for 17 in his ten over spell.

Earlier, sent into bat, India scored 283 for four thanks to a 102-ball 92 by their skipper Vikram Dhariwal.

Dhariwal's knock contained 10 hits to fence and was well supported by Narendra and Vipin Kumar, who chipped with little cameos of 44 and 39 respectively.

For West Indies, Ramal Chase, Shastri Shamaroo and Abhilash Deoke claimed a wicket each while one Indian batsman was run out.

Both Dhariwal and Harvinder were adjudged the Men of the Match for their fine performance. With this win India now has six points.
