U-17 Asia Cup: Singapore, Bahrain post victories

Bangalore:A superb bowling performance by Singapore's D Mayank who took seven wickets for 14 runs helped the city-state to trounce Iran in the first Group C match of the Asia Cup Under-17 cricket tournament, which began in Bangalore.

Iran, who batted first were all out for 31 in 14.3 overs with M F Taqireza scoring the highest 15 runs, while Singapore which earned six points finished the innings in 3.3 overs (33 for one) with a loss of one wicket. The match was played at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.

In the second match played at the Jain International Residential school grounds, Bahrain beat Thailand by 36 runs earning the gulf country five points.

Bahrain scored 213 for five in 45 overs with Gayen D'silva (72) and David Mathias (37) and Angad Singh (30) being the top scorers.

For Thailand, which earned one point in the fixture, Ajay Saraff got two wickets for 44 runs. Despite good knocks by Nishad Rego (45) and S Ranamukerje (39), Thailand could not reach home and finished the innings at 177 for five.
