Battle lines drawn for Ranji knockout stage

Mumbai:Reigning Ranji Trophy champions Mumbai will take on Group-B toppers Hyderabad in the five-day semi-finals of the Elite Ranji Trophy (knockout stage) cricket match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai from March 14-18.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) joint secretary Prof Ratnakar Shetty said in Mumbai that on the basis of the quotation, Tamil Nadu have finished on top in Group-B while Mumbai has topped Group-A and Hyderabad are placed second in Group-B and former champions Railways is the second team in Group-A.

"The second semi-finals in Elite division pits Tamil Nadu against Railways to be played at Chennai (according to rotation policy) from March 14-18 while in the Plate division Maharashtra will take on Haryana at Pune from March 14-18 while Orissa will play Madhya Pradesh at Cuttack in the second semi-finals on same dates", Shetty added.

"Both the finals (Elite and Plate) are scheduled to be held from March 26 to 30 and the venues would be fixed according to the rotation policy which will only be evident after the finalists are spotted", Shetty said.
