India beats Pakistan, tops group A

Bangalore:India beat Pakistan by 71 runs to top group A in the Asia Cup Under-17 cricket tourney in Bangalore on Thursday.

Put into bat by Pakistan after winning the toss, India reached a respectable 291 runs for the loss of four wickets in 45 overs, thanks to a good piece of batting by Ali Murtaza who hit up 109 runs facing 120 deliveries with the help of 11 boundaries.

Uday Kaul (59), Ravikant Shukla (40 not out) and Raviraj Patil (34) made valuable contributions to India's total.

For Pakistan, Raza Ali Dar emerged as the successful bowler claiming three wickets for 57 runs.

Pakistan, in reply to India's total, were all out for 220 runs in 42.3 overs. Nasir Jamshed (76) and Yasir Arafat (56) played a key role in pushing Pakistan score.

While Piyush Chawla scalped four Pakistani wickets conceding 40 runs, Ali Murtaza and Prem Pratik claimed two each.

With this victory, India secured five points and Pakistan one. India topped the Group A.

In another match Nepal defeat Bahrain by 89 runs. Nepal scored 216 for the loss of seven wickets in a match reduced to 35 overs due to delayed start and succeeded in bundling out Bahrain for a paltry 127 in 34.4 overs.

Paras Khadka (51) and Raj Shresta 46 were the top scorers for Nepal.
