Pak dethrones India to lift Under-17 Asia Cup
Tuesday, January 27 2004 18:12 Hrs (IST)

Bangalore:Pakistan dethroned India to lift the Asia Cup Under-17 cricket title with a convincing six-wicket victory in Bangalore on Tuesday.

Opting to bat at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, India were all out for 230 in 45 overs. Leg-spinner Piyush Chawla top-scored for the hosts with 51.

Barring the 62 run stand for the seventh wicket between Chawla and Prem Prathik (18), a good partnership eluded the Indians as wickets fell at regular intervals. India were 143 for the loss of six wickets at one stage.

Left-arm spinner K Raza Ali Dar was pick of the Pakistani bowlers taking three wickets for 40 runs while Fahad Zaman and Fiaz Ahmed scalped two each.

Pakistan's victory chase was built around the 109 run partnership for the fourth wicket between Adnaan Raza Ali (76 not out) and Fiaz Ahmed (63).

Sloppy fielding let India down as both Ali and Ahmed got a life each. Ahmed was dropped by Prateek at mid-wicket off Umesh Karvi at his individual score of 42 and the team's 171, while Ali was dropped by Raviraj Patil off Ravikant Shukla when he had made 57 at the team's same total. Pakistan reached the target in 43.1 overs.

Ali who hit five fours and one six in his 90-ball innings was declared Man of the Match.
