Sunday, February 1 2004 10:20 Hrs (IST)

Pune:Ace Indian stumper Nayan Mongia is hoping against hope to return to the national team stating, "there is no substitute for experience".

"I have been requesting the selection committee to give (me) a reason for keeping me out", he said in Pune adding, "wicketkeeping is a specialized job".

"A regular wicketkeeper is required for both One-day and Test cricket", Mongia told newsmen on the sidelines of a function to inaugurate "Marisoft-Mokhsa IT Cricket Cup 2004" at the Poona Club grounds in Pune.

"Maturity and experience have to go hand in hand. I have not grown that old so as not to be able to deliver goods", he stressed in response to selector's preference to give youngsters a chance.

Mongia said he has been "working hard playing for Baroda in the Ranji Trophy in domestic circuit this season".

Mongia also said he "was hoping to see a change of heart in the Indian selectors with former keeper Syed Kirmani heading the national selection committee".
