Wednesday, February 4 2004 20:19 Hrs (IST)

Cuttack:Hurricane half-centuries by Dinesh Kartik and Sunny Singh and their 114-run sixth-wicket stand helped India crush the Australians by four wickets in the first Under-19 One-day match at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on Wednesday.

After their bowlers had skittled out the Aussies for a modest 205 in 47.3 overs, the Indians overcame initial hiccups to reach the target with nearly 17 overs remaining.

Kartik tamed the Australian bowlers with an unbeaten 59 and Singh made 55 as India blazed to the target. Right-arm medium-pacers Scot Coyte (2-45) and Cameron Huckett (2-54) were the most successful bowlers for Australia.

Earlier, led by spinners Abhishek Sharma (3-42), Praveen Gupta (2-34) and skipper Ambati Rayudu (2-30), India dismissed Australia for 205 runs as they elected to bat after winning the toss. For the visitors from Down-Under, opener Theo Doropoulos (65), Adam Crosthwaite (40) and Ahillen Beadle (35) were the principal scorers.
