Dhawan, who has not been impressive in last two games, started off well, hitting the Aussies all around despite maintaining his poise to propel the hosts to a sound total of 307, even after suffering early losses.
The Delhi opener completed his hundred mark in 115 balls and embellished his innings with 15 hits to the fence and a big six.
G Dhiman (29 not out) and P Wagela (26) made some contribution to the innings while wayward bowling by Aussie youngsters, who conceded as many as 42 extras, helped the hosts set a big target.
The visitors, on their part, began with a bang, but failed to sustain the pace as the Indians picked up wickets in regular interval.
Talented top order batsman C Ferguson made a quick-fire (91) and K Skewes (73), made a last ditch effort, but none other showed any grit as the Aussie innings was wrapped up by 282.
Rayudu, who could not do much with the bat (23), wrecked havoc in the Aussie innings, picking up four wickets for 59.
