|Bhatia shines in Delhi's win over Rajasthan|
Thursday, February 12 2004 14:24 Hrs (IST)
Riding on Bhatia's second hundred in consecutive matches, Delhi scored a modest total of 204 in 50 overs before finishing off Rajasthan innings by 181 at the Eden Gardens.
The victory, however, did not serve much of their purpose, as the North Zone champions failed to bag a much needed bonus point. With 12 points in their kitty, Delhi remained a point less than champions Mumbai and had to be contended with a third place as Bengal (12 points) grabbed the second spot by virtue of their victory against Delhi in an earlier tie.
The last minute induction of Sehwag and Nehra however did not pay much dividend as neither of them could cut a mark. Sehwag, opening the innings, scored only (32) runs even as Delhi's famed top-order suffered early jolts before Bhatia (100 not out) took over the charge to lead his side to 204 for nine in 50 overs.
Rajasthan made a good start as skipper Gagan Khoda (68) and Dishant Yagnik (26) dealt with the Delhi bowlers well, but Khoda's unfortunate run out gave a major blow to his side, which never could regain the momentum.
Brief scores: Delhi: 204 for nine in 50 overs (R Bhatia 100 not out, V Sehwag 32, S Mathur 2/26). Rajasthan: 181 all out in 40.2 overs (G Khoda 68, D Yagnik 26, R Sanghvi 2/16).
