|Bengal beats TN, emerge runners-up|
Thursday, February 12 2004 14:32 Hrs (IST)
Das, along with Manoj Tewari (68 not out) and opener Arindam Das (63), led the hosts to a comfortable total of 280 before Bose wrecked havoc in the Tamil Nadu innings at the Jadavpur University campus, Salt Lake.
The hosts, however, failed to bag a bonus point and tallied 12 points, one less than champions Mumbai, but became the runners up riding on their victory against Delhi, who have also grabbed 12 points.
Bengal started off well despite losing the wicket of opener Deep Dasgupta (4) in early overs and maintained the momentum to reach a total of 280 for six in 50 overs.
Tamil Nadu faced a severe blow losing three wickets at a score of only 18 and never really recovered from the crisis, thanks to a fiery spell by Bose (9.4-1-35-6).
Bengal, in fact, could have bagged the bonus point, but for some resistance put up by S Suresh (65) and Ganesh Kumar (64), who led the innings to 260.
Brief Scores: Bengal 280 for 6 in 50 overs (S Das 84, M Tewari 68 no, A Das 63) beat Tamil Nadu 260 all out in 48.4 overs (S Suresh 65, GKumar 64, R Bose 6/35) by 20 runs.
