Das' ton helps East post respectable score

Dharamshala:A sparkling unbeaten 107 by opener Shiv Sunder Das helped East Zone post 229 for four against South on the first day of the Duleep Trophy league cricket match at Dharmashala on Saturday.

India Test batsman Das hit 15 boundaries during his century knock and added 111 runs for the second wicket with Arindam Das who lent valuable support with a well paced 55. Rajeev Kumar (10) was the other not out batsman at close of play.

Left-arm spinner Sunil Joshi picked 2-75 including the leg before wicket of Arindam Das. Deep Dasgupta failed to make a big knock, caught by Rowland Barrington off R Ramkumar (1-51) for 10, as did Rohan Gavaskar who was Joshi's another victim for 13.

Skipper Devang Gandhi contributed 17 before falling to seamer N P Singh (1-40). S S Das and Rajeev Kumar then added 41 runs for the unbroken fifth wicket.
