Security personnel not to accompany team
Tuesday, February 17 2004 12:57 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi:Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani on Tuesday said that there was no question of Indian security personnel travelling with the Indian cricket team to Pakistan.

Commenting on media reports that Indian security officials will go to Pakistan with the Indian cricket team, he said it was not true.

"I have seen reports in the media. No Indian security officials will travel with the Indian cricket team to Pakistan," Advani said.

Advani added, "I do not know how reports attributing this (Indian security personnel accompanying the cricket team) to the Home Ministry have been appearing. We have no role to play. It is for that country to provide security to the Indian cricket team."

To a question whether the three-member Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) team, which visited Pakistan recently to oversee the security arrangements there for the coming tour of the Indian cricket team, had submitted a report to him, Advani asked,"why should they?".
