Tuesday, February 17 2004 10:46 Hrs (IST)

Hyderabad:Star batsman VVS Laxman expressed confidence that the Centre was capable of taking adequate security measures during the upcoming Pakistan tour but captain Sourav Ganguly refused to comment on the subject.

"I'm sure the Government and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) must have taken enough measures to look after the security of the Indianteam," Laxman, who tied the nuptial knot with Sailaja, told the media at a photo session ahead of the reception at a posh Banjara Hills hotel in Hyderabad.

Ganguly, who was also present at the photo session along with other members of the team, refused to comment, saying "somebody is getting married, not now".

Attired in a bright red sherwani along with his wife who donned a gold coloured shalwar kameez, Laxman refused to speak about the views of other players in the team.

"I cannot speak of others' mood about the tour but everyone has full confidence in Government and BCCI though security concerns will be there," he said and hoped that Government will be taking full measures to ensure adequate security for the team.

On his wife Sailaja, Laxman said: "It's a great feeling to have a lovely wife and she was the source of inspiration during my Australian tour."

Sailaja, however, would not be accompanying Laxman during the Pakistan tour as "she has final semester examinations in March".

Introducing his wife, Laxman said, Sailaja a Post Graduate student in Computer Science, is a keen follower of cricket.

When asked who her favourite player is, "I have to find out," Laxman said evoking peels of laughter.

Is Sailaja his Lady Luck?

"Yes I do believe in it and I have got lot of support from her," he said.

A galaxy of sportspersons including Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid and other VIPs attended the wedding reception Laxman.

Chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) members, current and former cricketers came to greet the newly wed couple in the sprawling lawns of the star hotel.

Tendulkar, Dravid and former captain Mohammed Azharuddin were among the most sought after cricketers for autograph.

Besides the Indian cricket team that toured Australia recently, star hockey player Mukhesh Kumar, shuttler Gopichand, film star Nagarjuna and singer SP Balasubramaniam were among the prominent people who attended the function.

With light music of sitar and tabla providing the perfect mood, the couple was greeted by guests and a large number of old friends. Autograph seekers had a nice time pushing for signatures of celebrities.

Chief Minister posed for photographs with the couple and their parents.
