Adequate security shall be provided: Kasuri
Wednesday, February 18 2004 15:38 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi:Pakistan's Foreign Minister Khurshid Mahmood Kasuri on Wednesday said adequate security would be provided to Indian cricket team during its up-coming visit to Pakistan.

"If security can be provided to Prime Minister of India who is, of course, a VVIP, then why should the issue of security be raised at all," he told Doordarshan in an interview.

"So many teams have been visiting Pakistan. Even Indian teams have visited Pakistan when the relations were not good. Even then the security was provided to them," Kasuri said.

To a question, Kasuri said the coming Indo-Pak cricket series would be a message to the world about peace and stability in the sub-continent and suggested greater sporting contacts between the two countries.

On the issue of granting visas to cricket fans from India, he said "I am all for liberalisation of visa regime for people who will be coming to watch cricket."

"I am going to propose this to the Foreign Office, especially the Interior Ministry. We strongly recommend that visa should be liberalised." On greater sporting contacts between the two countries, Kasuri said, "I think, we should encourage this."
