Kapil bats for good people in Parliament
Friday, February 20 2004 19:48 Hrs (IST)

Bangalore:Cricket legend Kapil Dev categorically said on Friday he would not campaign for any party in the coming Parliamentary elections but emphasised that it's important to have good people in Lok Sabha.

"No party, no party, no party", he told reporters when asked if he would campaign for any political outfit. "Friends (whether I campaign), I don't know. Party is not important. It's people who are important".

"You have to have good people in Parliament. That's important. Does not matter which party they come from", the former all-rounder said. "For me, everybody is the same. It's unfair if I say about one party. But I support a group of people who are good".

Asked to comment on the raging debate over the "feel-good factor" and if he is personally feeling good, Kapil Dev he always felt good. Not just now, but for the last 30 years as God had been kind to him and he represented the country.

"The country is going in the right direction...and whoever is there looking after the country.... it's so happy to be on the right side. The country is growing, and we hope it keeps on growing at the same speed", the "Haryana Hurricane" said.

Queried if he thought the Central Government has done a good job in the last five years, he commented, "It's not right for me to come out openly and say that. I respect the Government".
