Pressure would be really high: Srinath
Sunday, February 22 2004 14:08 Hrs (IST)

Bangalore:Former pace spearhead Javagal Srinath said peer pressure would be "really high" on the Indian cricket team to win during the forthcoming Pakistan tour and rated the present side as the best team in the last one decade.

"Peer pressure would be really high. If it is India and Pakistan match, you have got to win. That would be one thing in the minds of players which is good in a way", Srinath, who recently retired from the International cricket, said.

Any performance against Pakistan would be "more valid than anything else. That is the Indian psyche", he said. "There are plusses and minuses. If we do not do that well, we should face the other side also".

Srinath said there was a "lot of hype" about the India- Pakistan series and added, "probably, it will get the best attention ever in recent history".

"Rivalry (against Pakistan) is always high". Asked if he missed the India-Pakistan series, which is coming up after 14 years, he said, "I miss cricket for sure, any cricket for that matter".

On the Pakistan tour coming up close on the heels of the "strenuous" Australian series, he said, "in this world of cricket, you got to play throughout the year like how Englishmen play". "One has to be really fit and understand the demand. I would say it is a challenge".

Rating the current Indian side as the "best team from the last one decade", he added, "we are progressing well".
