Peshawar:Irfan Pathan's family and friends rejoiced over his memorable debut for India in Pakistan but regretted the team's four-wicket defeat in the third One-day International at Peshawar on Friday.

The 19-year old left arm seamer, who caught the attention of the Pakistani public when he grabbed a record nine-wicket haul in an Under-19 Asia Cup match last year, captured three for 58 but could not stop Pakistan from overhauling India's 244 for nine and take a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.

Pathan's mother Shamim Banu said that his friends had turned up at their residence to watch the match along with his family members and during the 'jumme ka namaz' collective prayers were held for India's success and the local lad's good performance with the ball.

Pathan's father Mehboob Khan Pathan said all those who had gathered for afternoon prayers wanted India to win the match.

Pathan's mother also said that she and her husband were planning to go to Pakistan to watch the remaining matches and that their son had called up two days ago and had urged them to pray for the team's victory.

The left-arm seamer took three crucial wickets that of opener Shahid Afridi, Yousuf Youhana and Yasir Hameed.
